I want to watch this movie! Now! #UpsideDown #JimSturgess
Lately I have watched a movie called #OneDay based on the book with the same title. It is a story of Emma and Dexter who studied in the same University and meets one the last day, day of graduation. They will spend together following night and day and than each of them will go their own way. Both of them do not expect that those few moments will turn on into friendship lasting 20 years.
Everything what we see in the movie happens on the 15 of July the day of Saint Swithin (a night of miracles).
Year after year places are changing, their appearance, character and social status. Emma and Dexter stars to meets at the end of the eighties, through out nineties and knowledge of their experience will pass to twenty first century. Than now every 15th of July, they will meet and will spend together one day the title. Do they have something in common? Would they will be able to communicate and understand each other? Well… it turns out that it can be.
Emma comes from working class family, yet ambition and intelligent. From that background, she has little chance to fulfil her aims and for everything, she has to work hard. She lives in horrible flat and works as a waitress for several years. She dreams to become a writer. Dexter parents are rich, he is a king of life, a young God. He is handsome, full of self-confidence. He always gets everything what he wants. After graduation, he takes a gap year to travel. Than he stars a successful career in the television. He is just after good fun in life and casual sex. Emma is just a friend for him. However, she has fillings for Dexter although she is not flaunting with them.
Book and film take us for a journey of 20 years of their ups and downs, through experience of the success and the failures. Their friendship in the beginning is single side however not lacking of the complications. I watch film first and than I had read, the book and I think this way I had best of both. On this occasion, I think that book and film complete each other.
The film is very truth to the book and actors are perfectly matched. Emma - Anne Hatheway is a very good as inexperience student, inferiority complex waitress but full of confidence of her looks and a very talented writer living in Paris. Dexter – Jim Sturgess turns smoothly from student into a glowing successful television presenter. Addicted to drugs, alcohol and good fun he becomes unreliable father.
The evolution of characters evolves in a very natural way. Watching this couple on the screen, I had impression that they are not playing bit they are real Emma and Dexter. Beautify selected places, locations, amazing music and magic flowing from the screen made watching the film with unfeigned pleasure. Still it is a not a funny film, quite opposite it’s a very sad one. I was full in tears watching it.
“One Day” is truly moving story about kindred souls, great friendship and twisting ways of life that lead to love. That is what we all are looking in life. Nerveless we need to learn not to only watch but also to see.
